IxI Lang with Liz Dobson

IxI lang

On Tuesday 8 visitors joined me at Huddersfield University to learn about the live coding language IxI Lang. developed by Thor Magnusson.

It’s a front interface built on SuperCollider that enables non-coders to really access this world and think about how coding can be used for composition and improvisation. The beauty is that you can insert your own sounds (recorded or through a link to other software like Ableton Live) and jam with those instead.

Thank you to Huddersfield University Music team for access and support.

ixi workshop left

It was wonderful to be able to offer this workshop, though as you can see, the lecture room format creates a particular tutor/student dynamic. I would rather we were able to sit on laptops as in a laptop ensemble, however, those most interested in live coding might join me for just that.

I’m delighted to say that Alex McLean and Thor are sponsoring Shelly Knotts and Joanne Armitage to deliver a day on live coding via their Live Code Research Network.
